Delivering the highest standard of orthopaedic care

with personal attention to each patient!

Dr. Elise Hiza

Dr. Elise Hiza is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon with a special interest in arthroscopic (i.e. minimally invasive), surgical procedures of the shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. She grew up on a cattle ranch on the plains of Colorado, got her undergraduate degree at Colorado College, went to medical school at the University of Colorado and completed her extensive residency training at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. While in residency, she fell in love with Asheville and the culture and people of western North Carolina and made it her mission to return to the area.

Dr. Hiza chose to do an additional year of fellowship training at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Los Angeles, CA; where she honed her skills in cutting-edge, current techniques in arthroscopy and sports medicine with world-leaders in the field.

Dr. Hiza comes from an athletic background — she was a three-sport high school athlete and she and her sister were college varsity volleyball players. Dr. Hiza also worked as an athletic trainer for the football and women's lacrosse teams at Colorado College. She is very interested in junior, club, high-school and collegiate athletics, as well as women's sports. Her upbringing on a farm and cattle ranch fostered an interest in the care of rodeo athletes and also in the "working athlete”— individuals who are employed (and injured) in active industries.

Having experienced surgery and recovery herself, it is her goal to get her patients back to their active lifestyles using conservative methods if possible. If surgery is required, she attempts to use minimally invasive methods for a rapid recovery process. It is her mission to provide her patients with the same excellent service, communication, and compassionate care that she would offer to a member of her own family.

In her free time, Dr. Hiza enjoys spending time with her family, rodeo, volleyball, hiking, fitness, wake-surfing, snowboarding, live music, travel, and cooking (and tasting) good food.

Dr. Stephen Snyder, world-renowned shoulder arthroscopist at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute, had this to say about Dr. Hiza, "I was very impressed with Dr. Hiza's surgical skill and judgement as well as her professional demeanor and I would not hesitate to recommend her to any of my patients, friends or family who might need surgery."
