Dr. Richard Rutherford
Richard Rutherford, MD comes to Asheville Orthopaedic Associates from Denver, Colorado. Dr. Rutherford enjoys helping patients with hip and knee arthritis get back to the activities they enjoy. In Denver, he completed a fellowship training program in hip and knee replacement in a high volume practice that treated a very active patient population.
Dr. Rutherford grew up in Raleigh and attended college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed medical school at the Medical College of Georgia and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University. He completed additional training in hip and knee replacement at Colorado Joint Replacement in Denver, Colorado.
Dr. Rutherford’s training in knee and hip reconstruction allows him to tailor his surgical plan to the needs of the individual patient. His special interests include improving clinical outcomes in hip and knee replacement and enhanced or rapid recovery protocols. Dr. Rutherford lived in Asheville with his family for part his residency training and fell in love with the area. He is looking forward to building a practice centered on taking care of his patients the way he would a member of his own family.
